CICDE and CEC motivate youth organisations of political parties to involve more in democratic processes young people from under-represented groups
Date: 18.02.2022

On 15-17 February 2022, some 60 young men and women from the youth wings of 11 political parties participated in the online Youth Forum on Elections entitled ‘Including young people in electoral processes: How to attract new young people to parties and involve them in elections’.

The organisers aimed to motivate young people to get involved in political and electoral activity, including to contribute to the enrichment of knowledge in the electoral field, as well as to the strengthening of civic and political culture, with emphasis on communication, negotiation and collaboration.

CEC Secretary Alexandr Berlinschii said, ‘For us youth activism is an important stake, so over the years CEC and CICDE have carried out a large number of information and civic education programmes, with the involvement of several target groups, including young people.’

During the three days, experienced trainers versed in communication and promotion of rights addressed topics such as: electoral rights and procedures, the specifics of the inclusion of vulnerable groups, the attitude and position of young people towards electoral processes, the effectiveness of using different communication tools, political techniques and technologies to motivate young people, communication based on electoral marketing, etc.

During the training sessions, the CICDE trainer Marcela Roșca presented to the participants introductory aspects about the involvement of young people in the electoral processes in the country and how they can make the most of their potential by running for elected office.

The event was organised by the Centre for Continuous Electoral Training (CICDE) and the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) as part of the ‘Enhancing democracy in Moldova through inclusive and transparent elections’ Project, implemented by UNDP Moldova with the financial support of the American people provided through the United States Agency for International Development, the British Embassy in Chisinau, the Good Governance Fund.
