The National Librarian Day begins with the last webinar of the training module ‘Libraries – Voter Information Space’

The National Librarian Day begins with the last webinar of the training module ‘Libraries – Voter Information Space’, that lasted for 4 days.

The Centre for Continuous Electoral Training congratulates the approximately 4000 librarians from the Republic of Moldova on their Professional Day and wishes them further outstanding achievements.

‘We wish you have devoted readers, interesting activities and satisfaction with your daily work. We appreciate a lot your openness, engagement, dedication and creativity’ is the message sent by CICDE team.

During those 4 webinars, librarians had the possibility to learn about modern methods of information and civic education that could be used in daily activities and can transform a library into a true educational place regarding elections and electoral process.

Andronic Lilia, ‘These trainings were very useful for me, I have learned new things and for sure, I intend to put them into daily practice. Thank you for letting me participate in these trainings. We do good things together!

During the workshops, participants also discussed about and debated notions and activities characteristic of electoral cycle, legal provision regarding the organisation of elections in the Republic of Moldova, the system of electoral bodies, stakeholders interested in the organisation and conduct of elections, and the most important, how to develop the civic and participatory spirit among youth and future voters, library visitors.

Rotaru Olga, a librarian at Buciumeni community library from Floresti village, also noticed that a beautiful collaboration was established with CICDE in 2019, and the last day was a review of what she had already learned in previous modules: ‘however, I learned how to develop a comprehensive program for civic and electoral education for all beneficiaries of the community library’.

Aliona Manciu, librarian at ‘Dimitrie Cantemir’ Public Library from Ungheni district, mentioned that: ‘I always considered useful to train librarians and to inform citizens about civic and electoral education. Those two webinars demonstrated once again that it is good to receive such information. Apart from the fact that some topics were reviewed, we had the chance to develop a civic education program from A to Z for youth target group. Now, we have only to revisit what we have learned and to write down the ideas. In conclusion, for us, librarians nothing ever was too much’.

In 2018, CICDE initiated a prosperous partnership with the Association of Librarians from the Republic of Moldova with the purpose to join efforts for civic education, electoral education and informing citizens.  Meanwhile, over 330 librarians were trained how to deliver trainings and informative sessions for visitors of their libraries. Over 6500 people of all ages have already benefited from updated and accurate electoral information in the libraries.
