Conferring a permanent character to regional electoral bodies will bring voters closer to the electoral process
Date: 08.10.2017

On Friday, 6th October 2017, EHub debating platform of the Center for Continuous Electoral Training (CICDE) has convened the meeting of different electoral representatives who agreed that conferring to some regional electoral bodies a permanent character will increase voters’ interest towards elections.

This Ehub meeting was attended by over 20 representatives of political parties, Central Election Commission, civil society, election officials, voters, etc. They discussed about the opportunity of conferring a permanent character to inferior electoral bodies and decentralizing the electoral management.

The facilitator of the discussion, Mrs Cristina Cucurudza, Deputy Director of CICDE, has made an introduction on the debated topics and underlined the importance of civic education in elections. She also appreciated the interest expressed by participants to gain more knowledge about the electoral process.

Two special invitees have also attended this meeting: Tanja HOLLSTEIN, electoral expert, who spoke about benefits and risks of different models of electoral management and Mr Vadim FILIPOV, member of the Central Election Commission, who made a presentation of the current national electoral situation, trends and Georgia’s experience in this field. Participants expressed their interest for benefits of conferring a permanent character to inferior electoral bodies, continuously informing/educating voters and training electoral actors.

“Creating permanent regional electoral bodies will surely request larger financial resources, but I believe that investing in the continuous training of all electoral actors will prove beneficial on the long run”, declared Natalia TURCANU, MA student in Political Science.

"Voters are involved in the electoral process only close to the election day. It would be better, of course, to have electoral topics discussed as well in between elections", declared Angela CARAMAN, representative of local public authorities.

The electoral debating platform EHub was created by CICDE to continue the electoral education process and to analyse different aspects of the electoral process through a constructive dialogue among all parties involved in elections.

The event was organized with the generous support of the American People through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) within the project "Enhancing democracy in Moldova through inclusive and transparent elections" implemented by UNDP Moldova.
